True story from my friend, school teacher Victoria Martinez, who also founded the charity Scissors of Mercy. It may be the very best thing you read today. "Meet Lucky. My class raised this little guy from egg to adult. His pupa fell into a small cup where he came out unexpectedly over the weekend. We all thought he would not make it because his wings are curled. As I was teaching, a student called my attention to the net. To my surprise, all five of the other butterfly's were surrounding him, teaching him how to open his wings. One even used its antennas to try and brush up his wings. He is a fighter and is now our friend. We released the others today, but did not have the heart to watch him suffer since he can not fly. We know his life span is short, but we decided to care for and play with him until his last moments with us. God truly taught us a lesson this week to persevere through our adversities. With loved ones surrounding us, we can not fail."

Just when some are losing hope in the US public education system, Monica Estrada Saldana is finding solutions and using her voice. "Yesterday in a meeting at my children's school I stayed after with another mom and we started brain storming about creating a garden club. Well, we talked to the VP and I didn't back down. I explained the benefits of a garden and teaching the children about the science and nutritional advantages of growing your own foods and composting, all the food that get thrown away...and guess what? They approved!!!!!!! It is a small victory but being in a very low income school where some kids go hungry, I feel this will benefit the community." Sometimes dreams do come true. Thank you for being a force that helps those dreams become reality, Monica. |
